Short Story
“Roba’s Dream Saves Lives.Your Support Is the Key”
Story
Since my childhood, my dream has been to become a doctor. But this dream was not born from nowhere—it came from a reality I experienced firsthand with my beloved father. I saw with my own eyes how he struggles with heart disease every day, and how his smile sometimes turns into silent pain. In those moments, I realized that I did not want to just be a spectator to his suffering or anyone else’s. I wanted to be the doctor who restores hope to weary hearts. From there, my journey began to achieve this dream that my father planted inside me without even knowing it.
I graduated from high school with a grade of 94.7%, which qualified me to study medicine at the Islamic University. My joy was indescribable, but I was shocked when the medical school department filled its required quota and I was excluded. However, my dream did not weaken, nor did I let it become a dead end. So I enrolled in the College of Health Sciences as a first step toward my goal. There, I worked hard and excelled until I completed my first year with academic distinction, which enabled me to transfer to the College of Medicine. And there my real journey with my dream began.
But my joy was incomplete, because war came and destroyed everything: our source of income, our home, and everything we owned. Financial obstacles began to affect my dream, but my father’s resolve never weakened despite his heart condition. Today, financial difficulties are the only barrier between me and my dream.
My father, who suffers from heart disease, is our sole provider. We are three sisters, all studying medical specialties in different faculties: one studies dentistry, another is a doctor of pharmacy, and I am in medical school. We have lost our home and our source of income because of the war. I almost dropped out of school for one semester, but with your support I was able to enroll this semester — and secure the next two semesters. Constant worry about financial matters hinders my studies and affects my academic performance.
